If I Were 22, Single, and Male
I just read this article in the May 2005 issue of Popular Science magazine about Def Con: "the self-proclaimed 'largest underground hacking event in the world.'" The computer hacker in me (who is very small and deeply buried) finds an event like this very attractive. I think if I were 22, single, and male, I'd be there.

So...is it a requirment to have a subscription to "Popular Science" if you're a computer nerd, or just highly recommended? I just want to know if I need to order it now or or if I can wait a little longer! :)
It is actually my husband's subscription and he saved that article for me. Of course, I subscribed to Popular Science for a few years as a teenager. Since then, the magazine has changed to where it's geared more specifically to men than it used to be. Or maybe I just didn't notice it back then!
To answer your question, Maya, it is good (and fun) to keep up on the latest technology if you want to be a computer nerd. I haven't been very faithful in doing that, though. Popular Science is good, and you can read their website for free (www.popsci.com). Personally, I tend to be interested in more pure science and like to read Science News (online as well since their subscription price is outrageous) at www.sciencenews.org.
To be a true computer nerd you need to read Slashdot and buy things from ThinkGeek. They even have baby onsies so there is no reason to wait;).
